Marta I. Abello, Principal Senior Expert of the Dialogue Foundation, is a Certified Organizational Ombudsman Practitioner, with expertise in mediation, coaching and mentoring. She is the former Ombudsperson of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), serving the headquarters office in Washington, D.C., 26 country offices in Latin America and the Caribbean, and representation offices in Asia and Europe. During her tenure, Ms. Abello successfully resolved more than 1,000 cases for the organization. From 2020 to 2021, she coached employees and leaders in navigating the challenging and far-reaching impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, Ms. Abello trained leaders and employees in the importance of psychological safety for organizational productivity and individual well-being. In addition, Ms. Abello held positions in finance, human resources, and development over the course of her career. Other interests include coaching and mentoring young people.
Ms. Abello holds a Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. She has earned certificates in conflict resolution and strategic human resource management from Cornell University, and trained in conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation with Harvard University and Eckerd College.
She is fluent in English and Spanish, with working knowledge of French, and enjoys working in multi-cultural and complex environments.
